How to Incorporate Your Wedding Colours Into Your Destination Wedding

Your destination wedding is the ultimate celebration of love, adventure, and your unique style! One of the best ways to express that style is through your wedding colours.

Whether you’re exchanging vows on a sun-soaked beach in the Caribbean or a romantic vineyard in Europe, your wedding colours can tie everything together and create a cohesive, unforgettable experience.

Here are some fun and easy ways to incorporate your wedding colours into your destination wedding!

To preface this – no, you don’t need a wedding colour! But if you’re looking to incorporate a colour into your theme, here are some fun ways to do it. Our wedding colour was purple, and I added notes of it through my wedding sash, my mom’s dress, flowers, my nail polish, and hair clips!

1. Wedding Attire That Pops!

Your wedding attire is the centerpiece of the day, so why not weave your colours into your gown and suit? For brides, consider incorporating coloured sashes, veils, hair pieces, or even coloured embroidery to add a subtle touch. Grooms can sport a vibrant tie, pocket square, or even a colourful boutonniere that matches your chosen palette.

For your bridal party, think about fun ways to add pops of colour with dresses and suits. Consider lightweight fabrics that complement the climate of your destination. For example, flowy, chiffon bridesmaid dresses in soft pastels are perfect for a tropical wedding!

2. Colourful Bouquets & Floral Arrangements

Flowers are an easy way to bring your wedding colours to life. From bold tropical flowers in vibrant hues for a Caribbean wedding to soft lavender or olive branches  for a Mediterranean affair, florals are the perfect way to add your colours to your destination wedding. You can even match your bouquet with a colourful ribbon or add accents to your hair with small floral pieces.

Don’t forget about your ceremony flowers too! Consider arranging vibrant flower petals for an aisle runner, or decorate the altar with lush blooms in your wedding colours.

P.s. If you’re looking to have a destination wedding on a budget, opt for florals that are already included in your package (if they are, which most include the bride’s bouquet and groom’s boutonnieres). These include seasonal flowers which are the best way to keep your costs down, and still come in a variety of colours.

3. Destination-Inspired Decor

Destination weddings are all about the location, so use local elements to enhance your colour theme. If you’re getting married in a beachy location, use coral, turquoise, and sandy neutrals to match the sea and sky. For a tropical wedding, you could add pops of hot pink, orange, and green!

For a destination wedding in a more rustic or European setting, like a vineyard or a castle, you could bring in deep burgundy, olive, and gold. These rich colours would feel perfectly at home in a rustic-chic space. Think about lanterns, table settings, and draping that reflect your colour choices.

Take a look at what your wedding package includes. Let the location speak for itself, and consider adding some minor enhancements with pops of colour, whether it’s by reusing your ceremony florals, or colourful tableware.

4. Invites & Stationery

Set the tone from the start with destination wedding invitations that incorporate your wedding colours! Whether it’s a beachy postcard, a vineyard-inspired wine tag, or tropical palm leaves, your stationery can set the vibe for the big day.

Use your colour palette for not just the invites, but also the menu cards, programs, and thank-you notes.

5. Signature Drinks

One of the easiest and most fun ways to add your wedding colours to your destination wedding is through signature cocktails!

Create a drink that reflects your colours, like a bright pink raspberry lemonade cocktail or a tropical blue lagoon drink that’s perfect for a beach wedding. Serve them in glasses with coloured rims, or garnish with flowers that match your palette. Add a sign with your wedding colour for the bar!

6. Wedding Favours With a Personal Touch

Give your guests a piece of your destination wedding colour scheme to take home either with welcome bags or favours! Consider little gifts like room key holders with wrist coils in your wedding colour, or cute hand fans for a sunny wedding day.

Popular items include reusable tumblers, tote bags, and colourful sunglasses which are perfect for group photos!

7. The Cake, of Course!

What better way to show off your wedding colour than with a cake that reflects your palette? Whether you’re opting for a pastel ombré cake or a bold multi-tiered beauty with vibrant accents, your wedding cake is the perfect opportunity to bring your colours into the mix. Decorate it with flowers, ribbons, or even edible shimmer in your wedding hues for an extra touch of magic.

Most packages will come with a standard cake, and will cost extra to add real flowers. Ask your wedding coordinator if you can request a certain design or incorporate certain colours. An easy and inexpensive way to add a personal touch with your colour is to bring your own cake topper or by adding real-touch flowers.

8. Lighting & Ambiance

Lighting can work wonders for setting the tone of your destination wedding. String lights or lanterns can be used to create a warm, inviting glow.

For an evening wedding, incorporate your wedding colours into lighting designs to make the venue feel magical. Think coloured uplighting for a dramatic effect or soft fairy lights for a romantic atmosphere.

9. Personalized Travel Details

Even before your guests arrive at your destination, you can add your wedding colours to their experience. Consider creating custom itineraries in your colour scheme.

Even the welcome bags at the resort or hotel can reflect your wedding theme, making your guests feel like they’re part of the celebration from the moment they arrive.

Tying it all together

Incorporating your wedding colours into your destination wedding is a great way to bring together the essence of your location and your style.

From attire to decor to small details like favours and drinks, there are countless ways to make your colours shine. The best part? Your destination wedding will be a beautiful, cohesive celebration that is uniquely YOU!
